Due to their high tannin content, European and American White Oak varieties are highly suited to the veneer smoking process. Smoked Oak veneers exhibit the much-loved grain structure that we have become accustomed to, however, the colour of the veneers is transformed. Each log reacts differently to the smoking process, with resultant colours ranging from light-bronze through to a dark, almost black, appearance. Coupled with the enduring appeal of these varieties of Oak, the recent availability of smoked veneers has made these species even more versatile and contribute attractive new colour tones for modern projects.
