Laurel, camphor (Crown)

Camphor Laurel is native to Taiwan, southern Japan and south-east China and was introduced to Australia in the 1820s. Its highly variable colour makes it popular in applications such as fine furniture making, woodcrafts and creative design projects. It is easily identified by its distinctive camphor smell, and its veneers highlight the extraordinary strong dark grain against a honey-coloured base.
